What the picnic area is like

An oceanfront park where the Gualala River meets the sea, with meadows of tall grass and gnarled cypress groves between the visitor-center parking area and a broad beach and estuary. A bench at Whale Watch Point looks out over offshore rocks, and the county notes that the park is popular with picnickers but rarely crowded.

About Gualala Point Regional Park

Sonoma County's northernmost coastal park, with a river-mouth beach, cypress-dotted headlands and a small riverside redwood campground. A paved, accessible trail leads from the visitor center to the beach, and free all-terrain wheelchairs can be borrowed.
