Alcohol: Not allowed for drop-in visitors. Calistoga Municipal Code § 12.24.020(A)(23) makes it unlawful to possess or drink any alcohol, beer and wine included, in any park or its adjacent public parking lot unless the city specifically permits it through a reservation or special-event permit (CMC § 12.24.030; see also CMC ch. 9.08). The city's 2026 rental page says beer and wine may be allowed only at approved events with prior city authorization, extra permits and insurance; liquor is never allowed. Other code rules (CMC § 12.24.020): fires only in city-provided stoves, pits or braziers; no glass containers in playgrounds; no one over 12 on playground equipment; amplified sound needs a permit. Tobacco and vaping are banned in parks, including their parking lots (CMC § 12.24.040).

What the picnic area is like

Calistoga's small downtown park a block off Lincoln Avenue, with a gazebo, a children's playground, picnic areas with barbecue pits, restrooms and a drinking fountain. It's the town's gathering spot (the Halloween parade starts here) and an easy walk from Lincoln Avenue shops and tasting rooms.

About Pioneer Park

Pioneer Park is Calistoga's downtown picnic spot, with a gazebo, playground and barbecue pits a short walk from Lincoln Avenue. It's good for a takeout lunch, but unlike Yountville and St. Helena, Calistoga bans beer and wine in parks unless it's part of an approved event.
