Picnic tables are scattered around Jack London's old Beauty Ranch: in the center median of the museum parking lot, near the Wolf House ruins, by the Londons' cottage, and on a knoll above the ranch parking lot. The best spot is the reservable Oak Grove, partly shaded by big oaks and looking over the vineyard and stallion barn; the smaller Terrace site sits beside the cottage garden.

Yes, alcohol is allowed at Jack London State Historic Park. Alcohol: Allowed unless posted. The statewide rule (14 CCR 4326) bans alcohol only where a posted order prohibits it. Neither the operator's park policies page (Jack London Park Partners, updated Sept 2026) nor the State Parks page lists an alcohol ban here, unlike Sonoma State Historic Park's page, which does. The park's event rules also allow beer, wine and spirits at booked events with liability insurance, plus an ABC license and liquor liability insurance if alcohol is sold. Other rules: no smoking or vaping anywhere in the park; barbecue stands are provided only at the Oak Grove group site (none at the Terrace); e-bikes are barred from backcountry trails; collecting anything, including mushrooms, is prohibited.
No reservation is needed to use the picnic area. Most tables are first-come, first-served. Two group sites can be reserved for casual picnics (no vendors or rentals) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for a $150 non-refundable fee plus $10 parking per vehicle: the Oak Grove (short accessible path from the ranch lot; barbecue stands and potable water) and the Terrace (next to the cottage garden; no barbecues or water).
