No fires or barbecues of any kind; pack out all trash; dogs leashed at all times; park only in marked spaces; boating prohibited (swimming allowed); no drones without a CDFW permit.

What the picnic area is like

There are no tables: picnickers spread a blanket in the valley oak and bay woodland or along the riverbank a short walk from the small lot. At low water you can wade across the Napa River to a quiet half-mile loop under big oaks, and on hot days the river doubles as a local swimming hole.

About Napa River Ecological Reserve

A 73-acre ecological reserve just east of Yountville, owned by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife and stewarded since 2008 by the Napa County Regional Park & Open Space District. It protects one of the valley's last stands of valley oak riverside forest; locals come for short river walks, birding and summer swims, making it a no-frills blanket picnic spot.
