House rules
Alcohol: no published rule. Neither the park's website rules nor the District's pages mention alcohol, Napa County Code has no Skyline chapter, and a 2010-era concession agreement in the park master plan bans alcohol only on the archery range while deferring to general park rules that are not posted online, so call the office before bringing wine. Picnics are pack in, pack out. No dogs on trails; wood fires and smoking prohibited on trails; cyclists must wear helmets; stay on marked trails.

What the picnic area is like

The flat, developed area just inside the Imola Avenue gate holds the picnic grounds and a cook shack used for group gatherings, next to the campgrounds, social hall, restrooms and the Martha Walker native plant garden. Behind it, grassy, oak-dotted foothills climb toward about 25 miles of trails, including the route up to small Lake Marie; the 2015 master plan also lists three small 'wilderness' picnic spots out on the trails.

About Skyline Wilderness Park

A foothill wilderness park on Napa's southeast edge, on State land leased to Napa County and run since 1983 by the nonprofit Skyline Park Citizens Association. Most people come for its roughly 25 miles of hiking, biking and horse trails, but the entrance area also has picnic grounds, a rentable group picnic area with a cook shack, camping, disc golf and a native plant garden.

Kennedy Park is the city's go-to spot for big group picnics, with covered pavilions and more reservable sites than any other Napa park. It also has a Napa River boat launch, a river trail, ball fields and a skate park. It's free to drop in, but you can only drink here with a reserved site and a city alcohol permit.
