What the picnic area is like

More than two acres of shaded lawn dotted with redwood and cedar picnic tables beneath big old oaks, bordered by flowers and the estate vineyard right off Highway 29. It is busy and social rather than secluded, with the stone winery as a backdrop. On rainy days tables are set up inside the underground barrel room.

About V. Sattui Winery

Napa's best-known picnic winery, with a full deli of a kind very few Napa wineries are permitted to run. You can't bring food or wine in, but the large deli, cheese counter and weekend grill mean you can put a whole picnic together on site. It is busy on weekends, lively and family friendly, and needs no reservation for the picnic grounds.

A family-owned estate on Highway 29 just south of St. Helena, known for Merlot and Cabernet. There's no deli or bottle service, but the winery will arrange an Oakville Grocery picnic lunch with 72 hours' notice to go with your tasting.
