Alcohol: Allowed under California State Parks rules unless posted otherwise. 14 CCR §4326 makes drinking illegal only where a posted superintendent's order (§4301(i)) bans it, and no alcohol order for Sonoma Coast State Park appears on the park webpage, the June 2026 park infosheet or the brochure. Check signs at the lot. No glass rule was found. Beach fires are prohibited, ground fires are allowed only in State Parks fire rings, and no grills are listed at the tables. Drones are banned throughout the Sonoma-Mendocino Coast District. The shale bluffs are unstable, so stay on trails and well back from cliff edges, and never turn your back on the surf.

What the picnic area is like

A rugged, exposed headland at the entrance to Bodega Harbor, with about ten picnic tables beside the west parking lot and vault toilets at both the east and west lots. From the high cliffs the view runs straight out over the open Pacific, so expect wind. On the harbor side, Campbell Cove has three more tables and a toilet.

About Bodega Head (Sonoma Coast State Park)

The rocky headland at the mouth of Bodega Harbor is the Sonoma Coast's classic whale-watching lookout, and it's free. Pack a windproof layer, claim a table at the west lot, then walk the 1.9-mile Bodega Head loop for views over Bodega Bay and the open ocean.
