Regional Parks bans both drinking and possession of open containers at this park (a posted ban under Sonoma County Code §20-13), so no wine or beer at a picnic here; an event with alcohol needs a Regional Parks Special Use/Alcohol Use Permit. No fires or barbecues on the beach, and countywide charcoal/wood BBQs are banned on Red Flag, high-wind and Spare the Air days. Dogs on a 6-ft leash on the lawn and in the parking lot only. No amplified music, no smoking or vaping, no drones. Gathering or picnic of 25+ people requires a permit (§20-20).

What the picnic area is like

Tables and grassy patches sit in the shade on the bank above a broad sandy beach on the Russian River, right below Healdsburg's old steel-truss Memorial Bridge. In summer a temporary dam turns this stretch into a calm, lifeguarded swimming hole, so the picnic spots fill with beach-day families; the rest of the year it is a quiet riverside stop a few minutes from the Plaza.

About Healdsburg Veterans Memorial Beach

Sonoma County's lifeguarded Russian River beach at the south edge of downtown Healdsburg, with shaded tables and lawn above the sand. It is the easiest family swim-and-picnic stop in the Healdsburg area, but it is one of the few County parks where alcohol is banned year-round, so leave the winery bottle in the car.
