House rules
Alcohol: no outside alcohol, and the owners say this is strictly enforced; beer and wine are sold at the on-site snack shack (until 6pm), and no alcohol may be consumed in or on rented watercraft. This is a private business rule, not a public code. Also no glass bottles or containers of any kind, no BBQs, no pets on the beach (service dogs excepted), no outside shade structures, umbrellas or canopies (rentals only), and no weapons; boaters must be 5+ and able to swim, with life jackets worn; children under 12 must be supervised; no lifeguard on duty.

What the picnic area is like

A sandy Russian River beach at the edge of downtown Guerneville, set up for summer swimming, paddling and lounging on the sand. Shade comes from umbrellas the beach rents and sets up for you, since outside umbrellas and canopies are not allowed.

About Johnson's Beach

Guerneville's best-known river beach is privately owned (the Joseph siblings bought it in late 2021) but open to day visitors for a parking fee during the summer season. It's a lively scene with swimming, boat and umbrella rentals and a snack shack. Wine you bought at a tasting room has to stay in the car, because outside alcohol and all glass are banned.
