Alcohol: prohibited year-round. Alcohol consumption and open containers are banned at the park (posted ban under Sonoma County Code §20-13); hosting an event with alcohol requires a county Special Use/Alcohol Use Permit. Also: fires and barbecues only within the picnic areas, and charcoal/wood BBQs banned countywide on Red Flag, high-wind and Spare the Air days; no amplified music; no smoking or vaping; dogs on a 6-ft leash; entrance is right-turn-in, right-turn-out only from Highway 116.

What the picnic area is like

A tidy 5.3-acre riverside park on the south bank of the Russian River beside the Highway 116 bridge into Guerneville, with individual and group picnic sites set among trees, a small lawn, short trail loops and a non-motorized launch ramp for kayaks and paddleboards. A multi-use path crosses the river toward downtown Guerneville.

About Guerneville River Park

A small, free county park at the Guerneville bridge that works well for a quick riverside lunch or a paddle launch, with flush restrooms, accessible paths and first-come group tables. It is one of the few county parks with a year-round alcohol ban, so it is not the place to open a winery bottle.

Guerneville's best-known river beach is privately owned (the Joseph siblings bought it in late 2021) but open to day visitors for a parking fee during the summer season. It's a lively scene with swimming, boat and umbrella rentals and a snack shack. Wine you bought at a tasting room has to stay in the car, because outside alcohol and all glass are banned.
