Sonoma County Code Ch. 20 also applies at Lake Sonoma (§20-61, with the Sheriff as park authority), and §20-13 likewise needs a posted order. Fires only in grills or other designated fire facilities (36 CFR 327.10). Pets on a leash under 6 ft and kept out of restrooms, playgrounds and swim beaches (36 CFR 327.11). No amplified music; quiet hours 10 p.m.–6 a.m. Park in the two main lots and walk to the sites; buy firewood locally.

What the picnic area is like

Below Warm Springs Dam, a big mowed lawn dotted with shade trees holds six roofed group shelters and scattered single tables, plus a playground and sand volleyball courts. The Lake Sonoma Visitor Center and fish hatchery are just across the road, and a nature trail climbs the ridge for views over Dry Creek Valley and the lake.

About Lake Sonoma – Warm Springs Recreation Area (Visitor Center & Fish Hatchery)

Lake Sonoma's main picnic grounds sit at the head of Dry Creek Valley, about 11 miles from Healdsburg: roofed group shelters and free single tables on a big, shady lawn below the dam, next to the Visitor Center and fish hatchery. Federal rules allow alcohol unless an area is posted otherwise, so it makes a relaxed end-of-tasting-day stop, especially for groups.
