What the picnic area is like

More than 2,000 acres of redwood and Douglas fir forest in the hills above Monte Rio. From the Main Street lot, the short, pedestrian-only Dutch Bill Creek Trail follows the creek through a redwood grove, a cool spot on a hot day. The county calls the park a picnicking destination but lists no tables.

About Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park and Open Space Preserve

A young county preserve of redwood and fir forest on the edge of Monte Rio, with a creekside redwood grove a few steps from the parking lot and miles of trails beyond. The county lists picnicking alongside hiking and mountain biking. Facilities are minimal for now: a portable toilet and no water.
