About Chanslor Ranch

A 378-acre former horse ranch at the north edge of Bodega Bay, newly open to the public, with grassland trails and views of the bay and Bodega Head. The county lists picnicking alongside hiking, fishing and wildlife-watching. It is a quiet alternative to the busy beaches below.

Salmon Creek Beach is a long, open stretch of sand on the Sonoma Coast just north of Bodega Bay, with free parking lots at its north and south ends. Most picnickers spread a blanket on the sand; the picnic tables are at the Bodega Dunes day-use area to the south, which charges $10 a car. Dogs and fires aren't allowed on the beach, and the surf is dangerous, so keep kids well back from the water.
