Alcohol: Not allowed. The city's 2026 reservation policies issue alcohol permits only for designated areas at Lucchesi and McNear parks, the Rules of Conduct (effective Sept 16, 2026) bar alcohol in parks unless authorized by law, permit or City policy, and Petaluma Municipal Code §13.28.180(N) bans glass beverage containers in every city park. (§13.28.185 separately bans open containers in parks the city manager designates and posts.) Other: fires only in stoves or fixtures provided (§13.28.180(H)); amplified sound needs a facility permit; parks close at dusk.

What the picnic area is like

A compact downtown green at Petaluma Boulevard South and D Street with open lawn, picnic tables, a large playground and a covered gazebo ringed by rose beds. It is the easiest picnic stop in downtown Petaluma, and on Saturdays from May to November the farmers market sets up here.

About Walnut Park

Downtown Petaluma's best-known park is a small green with a rose-ringed gazebo, playground and picnic tables, and it hosts the Saturday farmers market in season. It is good for a quick family lunch downtown, but leave the wine in the car: glass is banned and alcohol isn't permitted.
